Navajo Chapter Meetings – Updates on the Navajo-Gallup Water Supply Project

The U.S. Bureau of Reclamation (Reclamation) and Jacobs, the design-build contractor for the San Juan Lateral Water Treatment Plant (SJLWTP), recently attended community meetings at the San Juan, Hogback, and Shiprock Chapter Houses to provide updates on the Navajo-Gallup Water Supply Project (NGWSP) and the SJLWTP. The updates included the status of the pipeline and pump station projects in design or currently under construction and the SJLWTP, which will provide drinking water to many Navajo communities.

Community members continue to show strong interest in the project and asked a wide range of thoughtful questions, including when chapter communities will receive water from the project and what the job opportunities are for chapter members. (Call Archer Western at 505-261-9421 for more information on tradespeople construction employment opportunities at the SJLWTP.)

The meetings highlighted the commitment to transparent, ongoing dialogue as the project moves from design through construction toward operations. These meetings underscore the shared dedication to making sure the project is done right — and that the voices of Navajo communities remain at the heart of the effort.
